Led by our Chamber's Government Affairs and Education/Workforce Development Councils, our organization recognizes its pivotal role in assisting our school leaders in providing a strong education system crucial to preparing people for good jobs and bright futures and sustaining a 21st century workforce that can compete in the national and global economy.
Our Chamber is focused in addressing shortcomings in our education system so that students emerge from our public education system prepared to pursue a career by way of college or trade school. We strive to inform parents and students of the accessible and affordable ways to seek higher education. In order to inspire prosperity within our business community, our Chamber is also driven to help our future leaders develop the right skills and qualifications which employers are looking for and to ensure our workforce will attract investment, drive growth, and spur motivation.
The District is focused on three Strategic Goals of High-Quality Instruction, Safe & Supportive Environment, and Effective Communication. This plan articulates these specific Goals and describes the Key Tactics and opportunities for continuous improvement identified to accomplish them.  This plan serves as both a guiding document for the District, as well as a platform for communicating performance and change management to our stakeholders. In 2019, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors had the privilege of having Broward College President Gregory Haile present information regarding a research study conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau in collaboration with researchers at Harvard University and Brown University.
The team of researchers took a close look at a child's possible outcome and income based on where they grow up, specifically their zip code at birth. Together they created the Opportunity Atlas. An interactive map allowing users to zoom in on cities and neighborhoods to see data like household income, job growth rates and incarceration rates. The data is intended to help cities and communities better understand the barriers when it comes to moving individuals out of poverty and encourage leaders to create policy that will help. In response to the study, Broward College joined forces with multiple organizations across our county to improve social and economic mobility.
The result was Broward UP, which focuses on six zip codes in Broward County with disproportionately high unemployment rates, low education attainment, and low household income levels. An additional five zip codes have been identified for later phases of work.
Through Broward UP, Broward College is offering FREE educational opportunities, workforce training, and support services directly in neighborhoods throughout Broward County. The goal is to help students get the training needed to find a good job, make more money, and get the skills needed to thrive in the workforce.

The Chamber also recognizes there are multiple pathways to achieving the American dream of attaining a career that is both fulfilling and high-earning. Each year, the Education and Workforce Development Council organize an informative event to help educate our community, and especially parents, about careers that do not necessarily require a four-year degree. The Chamber is fortunate to partner with Broward County Public Schools and Broward Technical Colleges, where students have now earned the most industry certifications for five years in a row!

We invite you to watch the virtual program, which took place in 2021 and 2022. Chamber President & CEO Dan Lindblade was joined by Broward County Schools Superintendent, and CareerSource Broward President & CEO Mason Jackson. They were joined by multiple speakers who focused on careers in the aviation, construction, healthcare, information technology, manufacturing and marine industries.
